Favourite Sherlock series/movie(s): If I have to pick one, I would pick the Guy Ritchie re-imagining. I think the translation to a broader audience yielded some interesting changes to the characters which I have enjoyed exploring. For further explanation, read more here. But I also adore canon (obviously), Granada Holmes, and BBC Sherlock.

Favourite Sherlock character(s): The great man himself, Sherlock Holmes

Favourite Sherlock pairing(s): Holmes/Watson in canon, movieverse, and Granada. Not BBC, alas. How he is portrayed, Sherlock has better things to do than succumb to such boring human reactions as lust, and John, well I have seen no evidence that John loves anything but the ladies. That being said, I adore the chemistry between these two (their bickering is reminiscent of Ritchie's Holmes and Watson), and I am eager to see their friendship continue to develop.

Interests/Hobbies outside of fandom: History. By day, I am an historian, a graduate student going for my Master's in history.

What you do in fandom: My favorite thing to do is analyze the characters. I should have added over-analyzing to my list of interests. Seriously, I love nothing more than a good discussion. Along those lines, I also enjoy working out the characters through writing and reading fanfic. My writing journal can be found here.

Other fandoms you like: Doctor Who, Harry Potter, Lost, Lord of the Rings, Game of Thrones, Star Trek, How I Met Your Mother, &c. Honestly, I just love film and television. I will join in a conversation anywhere.

Other comms you like: holmeswatson09 doctorwho I have been absent from LJ for a while, so I could use some recommendations.

Anything else you'd like to share: I'm just looking for some fellow Holmes enthusiasts who would be willing to debate/discuss/&c. I don't mind bouts of fangirling (let's face it, we all go there from time to time), but I would rather it not be the basis of your participation in fandom. A gal can only take so much.

Hiya! I adore Les Mis. It's my favorite musical. And I am very excited for the new film. I am very interested in seeing how they are going to go about staging the whole thing. I would love for them to find ways to sprinkle in little hidden gems for fans of the stage production. So far, the casting seems great. What do you think?

And yup, I love the television series. I plan on reading the books once I am free from the evil clutches of grad school!

Mine too. :) I can hardly wait for the film. I'm quite optimistic about it, and I'm pleased with the casting so far. Russel Crowe = perfect Javert. I'm thrilled! I was nervous that they'd cast a bunch of Glee/Disney teenyboppers, but that doesn't seem to be the case so far.

I'm slowly chipping away at the books right now. SO GOOD.

I am most looking forward to Eddie Redmayne as Marius. He is a brilliant actor, and when he was cast, I investigated his singing voice. Positively angelic!

I know him from some stage productions he's done in NY and London. But most recently, he played Jack in the adaptation of Pillars of the Earth. He was fantastic. Right now he's in theaters with My Week with Marilyn, but it isn't showing where I live. He's a beautiful, freckled, talented Englishman. Can't say enough good things about him.

I'm also really excited to see Russell Crowe as Javert. Physically and acting-wise, I think he is perfect. I'm also excited to hear him sing-- I only know him from his band back a dozen years or so. And any excuse to hear Hugh Jackman and Anne Hathaway sing. This should be great.

Ohh, thanks for reminding me about Pillars of the Earth! I need to add that to my list of shows to watch. The book always intrigued me, though I never read it. Maybe watching the show will inspire me to go buy it, finally.

They couldn't have cast Javert better, imo. I'm really hoping they'll choose to portray him in a slightly more sympathetic light than in past films. Crowe would be perfect...he's got that sad puppy-dog look to him. I think he'll do a good job with the songs, he has a deep enough voice, at the very least.
